I have made my first purchases for the C2C… Wainwright’s original book and Paul Hannon’s guide to the coast to coast. Hopefully these will help us to start planning our route and stops.

Also found another good web site: http://www.coasttocoastguides.co.uk/ which has listings of accomodation, advice, maps and guides.

I’ve been so full of cold over the last couple of weeks I can’t really be bothered to walk anywhere.

Might need to start booking sooner than we thought! by gleavem

Just been reading Kevanliz; a great webiste similar to what I hope this will evolve into! However, the point of this post is not to review their site, but to pick up on something they mentionned – apparently B&B’s, hostels etc get booked up VERY early (>8 months before!) so I’m thinking we need to seriously think about working on an itinerary and route so we can book us some beds ASAP!

When are we doing the Coast to Coast? by theshed

Well the first e.mail organising this walk went out today and it was asking people when we should do it.

Looks like the answer is:

The Last Two Weeks of August 2008.

I can’t decide whether that’s a good idea or not.  The weather should be nice, maybe a little too nice, then again thinking about the weather this year it’ll probably be tipping down.

The other thing is the accomodation.  I guess in the middle of summer it might be more difficult to get bookings for 6 but I’m sure we’ll manage it.

I guess I better get on with this planning malarkey.

Why are we walking coast to coast? by gleavem

Hello! I thought it would be a good idea to start from the beginning…

Well, we (Sid and I) like a good walk, and have done quite few reasonably big treks, but never anything that’s taken more than a day…Recently a colleague of ours (Barry) walked the length of Hadrian’s wall – a big achievement I’m sure you’ll agree, and I guess this was really the inspiration for our own coast to coast trip. We were looking for a challenge, a target, something to give us a good sense of achievement, and decided that walking coast to coast would provide all those things!

We’re still very much in the planning stage, but hope to use this Blog to chart our progress as we prepare for the trek, to seek advice, share advice, and report back how it went at the end! So please join in with any hints, tips, questions or warnings!

Cheers!
