Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Guide – A Review by gleavem

I haven’t finished it yet, I’m about half way through I guess, but I though I’d write a few words about the guide so far…

First thing’s first, it’s no Booker prize winner…let’s face it it’s not a novel, nor a biography; it’s a description of a walk, so there isn’t really a “can’t put it down” feel to it.  That said, it does have some lovely sketches and accounts of the villages encountered along the way, and Wainwirght is very frank and honest – comically so at times.  Also, I very much doubt anyone could actually do the walk using Wainwright’s guide alone, but I do think it’s a lovely source to start researching and planning the trip.

There’ll be more once I’ve finished!  xM

Finished it! Overall a great introduction to the walk, the areas crossed, what to expect and some interesting tit-bits about places passed on the walk.
I’ve started flicking through Hannon’s guide, but don’t think I’ll read it cover to cover like Wainwright’s, but it’ll definitely be more useful in route planning and navigation.
