I haven’t finished it yet, I’m about half way through I guess, but I though I’d write a few words about the guide so far…
First thing’s first, it’s no Booker prize winner…let’s face it it’s not a novel, nor a biography; it’s a description of a walk, so there isn’t really a “can’t put it down” feel to it. That said, it does have some lovely sketches and accounts of the villages encountered along the way, and Wainwirght is very frank and honest – comically so at times. Also, I very much doubt anyone could actually do the walk using Wainwright’s guide alone, but I do think it’s a lovely source to start researching and planning the trip.
There’ll be more once I’ve finished! xM

Finished it! Overall a great introduction to the walk, the areas crossed, what to expect and some interesting tit-bits about places passed on the walk.
Comment by gleavem October 21, 2007 @ 7:11 pmI’ve started flicking through Hannon’s guide, but don’t think I’ll read it cover to cover like Wainwright’s, but it’ll definitely be more useful in route planning and navigation.
